In these dark times where we begin to question the efficacy of subscribing to the Guardian as a bulwark against the jackboot of the rentier oligarchs, we perhaps need to draw our gaze to those who have never been under the pretence of a saviour liberal order. Agnes Varda did. The Gleamers and I, is a masterwork of subtle empatic optimism under a dark cloud. Ok, it’s not all a Bolshy love in. Far from it. In fact it’s a pertinent meditation of the notion of waste and want. A doco. And a very good one.
